Hypnobirthing in Mount Waverley & Murrumbeena

Hypnobirthing

You want a positive, calm, happy birth experience.

Hypnobirthing at Focus Osteopathy

Preparing for Birth, Together

Hypnobirthing is an prenatal (a.k.a antenatal) education program. It teaches breathing techniques, relaxation practices and a way of understanding what is happening during labour, so that you and your birth partner walk in with preparation.

It is not a substitute for the care of your midwife, obstetrician or GP, and it does not decide how your birth will go. What it offers is a set of tools and information you can draw on whatever the day brings. Our classes run at our Murrumbeena and Mount Waverley clinics and partners are encouraged to attend with you.

Reasons Patients Come to Hypnobirthing Classes

People arrive at these classes from quite different starting points. These are the most common ones we see at Focus Osteopathy.

You Want to Feel Prepared Rather Than Anxious

The unknown is a large part of what makes birth daunting, and understanding the process changes how it feels to approach it.

You Would Like Practical Techniques to Use

Breathing and relaxation practices give you something specific to focus on, that may positively impact your birthing experience.

Your Partner Wants a Role

Birth partners often feel unsure how to help, and the classes give them a clear part to play.

A Previous Birth Has Left You Uncertain

If your last experience was difficult, preparation for this one can feel especially important.

What the Classes Cover

The program covers how labour progresses, the physiology behind it, and what the various stages involve.

You will learn breathing patterns and relaxation techniques, and practise them so they are familiar rather than theoretical by the time you need them. There is also work on the environment around you, how to communicate with your care team, and how your birth partner can support you practically.

Some people find these techniques helpful during labour and others find them less so, and every birth is different. The classes prepare you with options rather than a script.

Getting the Most Out of the Program

Four things worth knowing before you enrol in our hypnobirthing program.

Come With Your Birth Partner

Much of the content involves the two of you working together, so attending as a pair makes a real difference.

Practise Between Classes

The breathing and relaxation techniques rely on repetition to become automatic, which is what makes them usable under pressure.

Start Early Enough

Booking in during the second trimester leaves time to practise before things get busier..

Keep Your Care Team Informed

Talk to your midwife or doctor about what you are learning, so your preparation and your clinical care are aligned.

Why Do Hypnobirthing at Focus Osteopathy?

Hypnobirthing courses are widely available. Here is what is different about doing yours with us here at Focus Osteopathy.

Delivered Within a Healthcare Clinic

Classes are run by a qualified practitioner in a clinical setting, with the rest of the team available if you need support during your pregnancy.

It Works Alongside Your Existing Care

The program is designed to complement the care of your midwife, obstetrician or GP rather than sit separately.

Partners Are Included Throughout

Your birth partner learns alongside you, with practical techniques they can use rather than general encouragement alone.

You Can Continue Your Care in One Place

Many parents also see our osteopaths throughout their pregnancy journey and afterwards, which means continuity rather than starting again with someone new.

Small Groups and Time for Questions

Classes are kept small enough that you can raise the things you are specifically worried about.

Preparation, Not Promises

The program gives you tools and understanding for whatever your birth looks like, including if plans change on the day.
