Exercise rehabilitation for a stronger recovery.
Hands-on treatment works to settle a problem, but it is what you do between appointments that determines whether it stays settled. Exercise rehabilitation is the structured version of that: a program built for your body, your injury and what you are trying to get back to.
Our practitioners at our Murrumbeena and Mount Waverley clinics work with people recovering from injury, post-surgery, or wanting to move without the same complaint returning every few months. If you have been given exercises before and never quite stuck with them, this is a different approach.
Recovering From an Injury
You are past the acute stage and need to rebuild strength and confidence in the area before returning to normal activity.
Post-Surgery
You have been cleared to start moving again and want structured progression rather than guessing what is safe.
A Problem That Keeps Coming Back
The same complaint has flared several times, which usually points to an underlying issue that has not been addressed.
Getting Back to Sport or Training
You can manage day to day, but you are not confident the area will hold up under load or stress.
It starts with an assessment. Your practitioner looks at how the area moves, what it can currently tolerate, where you are compensating, and what you need to be able to do by the end of it. The program is then created with your specific situation in mind, rather than from a template.
Early exercises are usually simple and low load, and they progress as your strength andcapacity improve. You will be shown each movement, assessed while you do it, and corrected where needed, so you are not relying on memory or a video.
The program is reviewed and adjusted at each appointment based on how you are responding. Exercise rehabilitation may help improve strength, mobility and function, though timeframes and outcomes vary from person to person.
Four things that make the biggest difference to how well rehabilitation works.
Your program is designed around regular repetition, and progress comes from what happens at home rather than in the appointment itself.
Rebuilding from a realistic starting point works better than trying to pick up where you left off before the injury.
Tell your practitioner what is easy, what aches and what you cannot manage, so the program can be adjusted rather than pushed through.
Strength and tissue capacity build gradually, so it is worth committing to a block of sessions before judging the results.
Before any exercise is prescribed, your practitioner assesses what the area can tolerate and what is contributing to the problem, so the program addresses your situation specifically.
If you are also seeing one of our osteopaths, your practitioners share what they are noticing, so the treatment and the exercise work in the same direction, with the same overarching goals.
Sessions are one-on-one, which means the way you perform each movement is checked rather than assumed.
Exercises are reviewed and changed as your capacity and strength improve, so you are not still doing your week one program two months later. The goal is to continually progress, at your pace.
Exercise rehabilitation at Focus Osteopathy is delivered by university trained practitioners who understand injury, anatomy and recovery.
Your practitioner explains what each movement is for, which is usually the difference between a program you follow and one you abandon.
There’s a reason our patients don’t keep coming back for the same problem. We don’t just chase symptoms, we find what’s causing your pain and address the root cause of your discomfort.
We hear your story and assess thoroughly to find the true cause of your pain, not just where it hurts.
No jargon. We show you what's happening and why, so you feel confident in the plan ahead.

Choosing an osteopath is an important decision. That’s why we offer a free, no-obligation discovery session, giving you the opportunity to meet our team, discuss your concerns, and ask any questions before deciding if we’re the right fit for you.
* Note: there is no treatment given at one of our free discovery session. It’s for you to ask us more questions and for us to confirm whether or not we think we can help you. Refer to the ‘Terms and Conditions‘ page for more detail.

Osteopathy may be appropriate for a range of musculoskeletal concerns. Explore some of the common conditions our osteopaths assess and manage below.
General gym workouts or group Pilates focus on overall fitness without specific medical oversight for injuries or conditions. Exercise rehabilitation at Focus Osteopathy is clinically tailored—starting with a thorough assessment to identify weaknesses, then using progressive, evidence-based exercises (e.g., strength training, balance work, core stability) under supervision to rehabilitate safely. It integrates seamlessly with osteopathy for pain relief first, then targeted rebuilding, making it ideal for recovery from back pain, arthritis, or pregnancy-related issues in Melbourne.
At Focus Osteopathy, Exercise Rehabilitation can be conducted both one-on-one and in group settings. One-on-one sessions provide personalised attention and a program tailored specifically to your needs. Group sessions may still be individualized but are often designed for people with similar conditions or goals.
Exercise Rehabilitation and Strength & Conditioning share some similarities, such as improving strength and movement. However, Exercise Rehabilitation focuses on recovery, injury prevention, and restoring function, while Strength & Conditioning is more performance-oriented, aiming to enhance athletic ability and physical fitness.
