Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a modified form of traditional Pilates used by osteopaths as a tool for injury management and rehabilitation. Clinical Pilates focus’ on training the body’s deep postural muscles to improve motor control and stability of the spine, pelvis, hips, neck and shoulder regions, rather than strength.

Muscles targeted are the deep abdominal and lower back muscles, pelvic and upper/middle back muscles.

Clinical Pilates by osteopaths and physiotherapists emphasizes the accurate diagnosis and treatment of pain and injury with individually tailored floor and spring resisted exercises to target specific problem areas.

Close supervision of technique and graded exercises ensure safety and injury prevention for the patient.

Clinical Pilates can help with many conditions including;

  • Lower back pain
  • Pelvic stability problems
  • Recurrent sporting injuries – hamstring, groin, shoulder
  • General fitness and toning
  • Pre and post natal care
  • Sports specific performance enhancement

Pilates caters for people of all ages. Exercises can be performed using your own body weight, or with the aid of various pieces of equipment. A typical Pilates workout would include a number of exercises performed at high repetitions in sets of two to four. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and abdominal control.
